Picking Up The Pieces began with a promise. After experiencing the homeless system as a single mother, our founder, Shana K. White, understood the emotional weight of receiving keys to housing but still walking into an empty space. Housing may open the door, but a home creates the foundation for healing, routine, rest, and stability.
Too often, families transitioning from homelessness are placed into housing without the basic items needed to live with dignity — beds, tables, chairs, dishes, towels, lamps, and furniture that makes a space feel safe and complete. Without these essentials, families may continue to experience stress, instability, and emotional exhaustion even after housing placement.
Picking Up The Pieces was created to meet families at this critical moment. Through donated furniture, household goods, volunteer support, and intentional design, we help families turn empty rooms into homes that support rest, connection, confidence, and long-term stability.
