From Empty to Empowered is Picking Up The Pieces’ signature homeless re-entry program. We support individuals and families who have secured housing after experiencing homelessness but are moving into empty or under-resourced spaces. Through donated furniture, household essentials, volunteer service, and intentional interior design, we help transform empty housing into dignified homes where families can rest, rebuild, and begin again.
For many families, receiving housing is a major milestone — but housing alone does not always mean a family has what they need to feel safe, stable, or at home. Many families move in without beds, seating, kitchen items, linens, or basic household essentials. This program helps close that gap during one of the most vulnerable stages of rebuilding.
We provide gently used furniture, beds, bedding, kitchen essentials, bathroom items, household goods, volunteer support, and intentional room setup. Each home transformation is designed to support dignity, routine, comfort, and long-term stability.

We serve individuals and families transitioning from homelessness into housing, with a special focus on households with children, survivors rebuilding after crisis, and families referred through trusted community partners.

A furnished, thoughtfully prepared home can reduce stress, support emotional well-being, and help families build daily routines after homelessness. By providing essential furniture and household items, the program reduces the financial burden of furnishing a home on limited income and helps families focus on stability, rest, and rebuilding their future.
